Participatory action research (PAR) aims to empower individuals and communities to achieve social change.

This blog will explore the relevance of this research approach to occupational therapy.

About

Kia ora and welcome.

I am an occupational therapy student completing my final year of study at Otago Polytechnic. I plan on using this blog as a forum to explore my learning/thinking about participatory action research (PAR) and occupational therapy.

I am interested in the potential of PAR as a set of research approaches as it addresses many issues that are of concern to occupational therapists:
  • Client centred practice - participation and partnership
  • Reflective practice
  • Questions about what constitutes valid knowledge or evidence
  • A practical, hands on, orientation to the development and application of theory
  • Social and Occupational Justice
